The Body Remembers What the Mind Forgets
There is a kind of knowing that cannot be learned from a book.
It cannot be downloaded, memorized, or debated into existence.
It is remembered.
Long before we explained the world with language, we experienced it through sensation. Heat meant safety. Smoke meant transformation. Water cleansed more than dirt. Fragrance marked celebration, mourning, prayer, and passage. Copper adorned the body not only because it was beautiful, but because it connected people to craftsmanship, lineage, and presence.
The body learned first.
Modern life asks us to live almost entirely in the mind. We think through our exhaustion instead of resting. We analyze our emotions instead of feeling them. We search for productivity while forgetting presence.
Yet the body never forgets.
A familiar scent can transport you decades into the past.
A piece of jewelry can remind you of someone you’ve loved.
The warmth of a cup held between your hands can calm a nervous system that words never could.
These are not accidents.
They are reminders that the body speaks a language older than logic.
At The Copper Shaman, I often use the phrase “The Current.”
The Current is not something mystical that exists outside of you.
It is the flow that already exists within you.
Sometimes it moves freely.
Sometimes grief slows it.
Sometimes fear interrupts it.
Sometimes years of survival teach us to disconnect from it altogether.
Ritual does not create the Current.
It simply helps you hear it again.
When you light incense intentionally, you are creating a transition between one state of being and another.
When you prepare a ritual bath, you are telling your body that this moment is different from every other moment in the day.
When you anoint your skin with oil, you are reminding yourself that your body deserves care—not only when it is broken, but while it is becoming.
These small acts matter because they interrupt autopilot.
They invite awareness.
Presence is where change begins.
This is why I create each piece in the Atelier by hand.
A talisman is not merely an accessory.
It is something carried close to the body—becoming part of your daily rhythm.
The same is true of every oil, botanical blend, bath soak, and ritual smoke I formulate.
They are not designed to replace your own wisdom.
They are invitations to remember it.
The goal has never been dependency.
The goal has always been autonomy.
To remember your own rhythm.
To trust your own body.
To become familiar with the Current that has been present all along.
That is why I rarely ask, “What do you need?”
Instead, I find myself asking,
“What is your body trying to remember?”
Because sometimes healing is not about becoming someone new.
Sometimes it is simply returning to the person you were before the world taught you to leave yourself behind.
Reflection
Before you reach for your phone tomorrow morning, pause for one minute.
Take one slow breath.
Notice the weight of your feet on the floor.
Feel the air on your skin.
Ask yourself:
“What is my body asking for today?”
Listen without rushing to answer.
The Current has a way of speaking when we become quiet enough to hear it.
